Occupational Therapy
We help our clients achieve their maximum potential by going beyond the imagined possibilities through collaboration with them, their family and circle of care.
At Connected Self, our occupational therapists (OTs) support children, young people and adults who are experiencing challenges in their relationships, attending and participating in school, getting around, daily routines and doing things that matter to them and their family. We support our clients to participate in activities that they want, need or are expected to do in order to live a healthy and meaningful life.

Okay, but what exactly is occupational therapy?
The question of what occupational therapy often arises, and the answer reflects OT incredible versatility. At its core, occupational therapy focusses on the everyday things that make our lives meaningful for each person and we then work together to find solutions to achieve goals. Whether it's taking care of themselves, supporting their families, participating in social or community activities, or simply doing what brings them joy.
Occupational therapy empowers clients to achieve meaningful participation. By focusing on what matters most to each client, OTs work to enhance the skills necessary for meaningful participation in daily life.
Our OTs seek to understand current challenges, limitations, strengths and interests to first understand and then craft a plan that identifies and embraces the client’s needs and goals, big and small.
These can include, but are certainly not limited to:
- Educational activities (engagement in the classroom, extracurricular activities, participating at school)
- Self-care activities (sleep, toileting, dressing, mealtimes, routines)
- Play and social activities (friendships, sports, recreational)
- Classroom-based activities (being in a classroom, coping with routines, making friends, holding a pencil, writing, cutting with scissors)
- Relationships (building and maintaining friendships, strengthening relationships at home)
We recognise not all journeys are the same and the uniqueness we each bring to the world.
Our approach keeps the whole person in mind whilst considering their history, context and relationships, creating achievable strategies and working towards positive outcomes and changes.
Depending on individual circumstances, our occupational therapy support might take place at home, alongside family, at school, in nature, in the hospital, or out and about in the community.
