Background
I have a passion for working with people and organisations in achieving their goals and aspirations. I have studied both psychology and theology at a tertiary level, as well as a recently completed Graduate Certificate in Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation. I have always maintained an interest in continuing to expose myself to information from a range of disciplines to further my knowledge.
I started my career as a volunteer, supporting young people who were living on the streets as part of a street outreach program. I subsequently worked in a number of youth worker roles supporting young people who had experienced significant trauma and instability. Over time I gravitated to project and policy development work and have since undertaken senior leadership positions within both the government and non-government community services sector within South Australia as well as national roles. I have extensive experience in service development, the implementation and evaluation of innovative programs, operational and project management, leadership, strategic planning and the management of change processes.
I have always had a keen interest in leadership and supporting young people and adults to maximise their potential and achieve their goals. I operate from the perspective that we are all unique individuals and that everyone has the capacity for positive change, whether they are an individual, family or community.

Strategic Planning and Policy Development
I have extensive experience in strategic planning and policy development and believe in takinig a deliberatre approach to realising organisation’s strategic intent. I have both contributed to, and managed, significant strategic planning and policy development processes, which have driven systemic change in both government and non-government organisations.
Through this experience I have learnt the need to invest time in the initial phase of the planning cycle to ensure that there is an understanding of the policy and funding landscape as well as identifying the projected outcomes and core strategies of the process.
I am an individual who works hard to engage both staff and customers (and any other relevant stakeholders) within the change or consultation process. I have learnt the critical need to think out and implement change management strategies (such as comprehensive communication strategies and the use of change networks) in ensuring that the implementation phase is well supported. I believe that it is critical that implementation activity is monitored and evaluated against the projected outcomes in order to respond in a timely manner to any issues that may occur.

Team Building and Leadership Development
I have held a number of senior management positions (operational, project and policy roles) in both government and non-government community service agencies. This has provided extensive experience in supporting and leading indivduals and teams under stress and/or experiencing vicarious trauma attributed to their work roles. In addition I have significant skills in negotiation, conflict management, managing performance development, supporting staff through rehabilitation, problem solving and communication.
My leadership values the uniqueness and strengths of all staff (e.g. their personality type and experiences). I have learnt the importance of leadership and supervision styles being matched to the individual in order for staff members to be supported to operate at their best. My approach is underpinned by the understanding that organisational value in human service agencies is created through the people that make up those agencies. Staff recruitment, professional development and retention are therefore critical to making a difference to the people that agencies work for.
I am trained and accredited in the administration of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) which provides a strong theoretical and evidence based approach to the development of teams and leadership in individuals. It also provides a means to match leadership and supervision styles to the individual staff member and to optimize complimentary roles within teams.
Through my engaging and compassionate style of leadership and facilitation, I have been able to operate successfully in a number of challenging community service leadership positions, as well as to facilitate high quality training and workshops for groups. I am experienced in providing both formal and informal coaching and supervision to operational and managerial staff and developing cohesive teams.

On a Personal Note...
I have a wonderful family with three vibrant, busy and fabulous teenage kids that keep me grounded and on my toes! As well as having a strong commitment to my own personal spiritual growth I am passionate about social justice, the environment and the outdoors, whether this is hiking in the bush or playing a game of backyard cricket (not that I can claim to be Adam Gilcrest esq!).
